All donations are gratuitous. No overriding provisions or provisions restricting the use of other University funds (including possible matching of the donation by the Finnish government) apply to donations. The University makes all the decisions on the use of the donated funds.
All information about the donation (the donor, the sum and how it is targeted) is public under the Act on the Openness of Government Activities (621/1999). The donor’s details are attached to the University’s customer and stakeholder register.
The Tampere University Foundation sr, which acts as Tampere University, has a fundraising licence. The donated funds are used to support the University’s activities as stipulated by Section 2 of the Universities Act (558/2009). In addition, the donated funds may also be used to capitalise the University, the proceeds from which will also be used to fund the tasks mentioned in Section 2 of said act.
